2017 is here, January is the first month of the new year and a time of tremendous pressure and hope for change. January is a time to forge ahead. We have uninterrupted time to push to meet our personal goals and for our children a time to advance intensively towards academic success as we have 5 months before summer. January is coming to an end and you might find yourself stressed and overwhelmed.
Take a deep breath and focus on what you have already achieved, look back to the good things you’ve done. Yes, there is more to do, but keep in mind you can do it successfully as you have done in the past.
Be practical, don’t lose yourself in the negatives, January has gone fast for all of us. Take a step back and look at your achievements and strengths. Then think of where you want to go, what goals you are still working on, what new goals are in the horizon. Then look at the next step you want to achieve, lay out an attainable plan and take appropriate action to address each situation and/or step.
As a parent you know now is the time to push your child. With 4 to 5 months till summer there is a lot to accomplish. Take the time to talk with your child and express your goals for them, listen to your child’s own goals and together make a list of attainable goals for the months to come. Make a plan with those goals together.
Keep in mind that success doesn’t happen overnight and there are often ups and down along the way. Don’t beat yourself up over the downs. Things happen that are out of your control, and it is up to you to make the best out of them. Keep your eye on the end goal and just keep trudging. You will get there, but don’t stress these dips. It’s part of a normal life cycle. Stay positive and certain in knowing you can and will accomplish what you set out for yourself and your child. It is the small steps forward that add up.
Keep a positive mindset and share it. It is contagious and it leads to successful outcomes.
